There’s a new twist to the awaited clash between rivals Ghana and Nigeria in the first leg of the World Cup playoffs owing to Ghana’s bad pitch at the venue to host the match.
This new development was shared on the social media page of Ghana’s seasoned journalist Saddick Adams aka Sports Obama who revealed that FIFA is not impressed with the photo of the pitch at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium the National Sports Authority sent to them.
For now, Nigeria has reportedly alerted FIFA that the pitch is still in a bad situation, prompting a review from the football world giving body. And if the pitch turns out to be below standard, Ghana would host Nigeria on a neutral ground probably Morocco or Benin.
“NEWS FLASH: FIFA has warned that Ghana may have to choose between Morocco & Benin to host Nigeria in the first leg of the #WCQ2022.
I’m told Nigeria filed a petition at FIFA with pictures of the poor Cape Coast pitch posted by the official handle of the NSA.”
“CAF officials will conduct a final inspection of Cape Coast tomorrow. Unless they’re wholly convinced with the state of the pitch, the Ghana vs Nigeria will be hosted in one of the aforementioned countries.”
